Fiction Edition

The Fiction Edition is here! There’s an art heist unfolding in the centre of Melbourne, an unexpected meeting in a mysterious forest, mid-air parenting pandemonium, a teapot Jesus, and love lost, and found. Happy reading!

There is always something special about our annual Fiction Edition. It’s in the 13 memorable short stories from writers around the country. It’s in the gorgeous illustrations by Alice Lindstrom that make this issue a work of art. It’s in the way fiction expands our worlds, and maybe offers a sense of escape too.

For 20 years, the Fiction Edition has been dedicated to discovering new talent. This year, we received more than 800 stories from Australian writers. These were whittled down to 13 by judges Claire Cao, Melissa Fulton and Daniel James, along with the editorial team. There’s an extra 16 pages, made possible thanks to the generous support of the Copyright Agency’s Cultural Fund, to showcase even more writing, and give you even more time to enjoy that simple pleasure of discovering a good read.
