Healing with the Heelers

“I had someone who works in foster care say, ‘This show is probably the only example that some kids have of a functioning family,’” says Melanie Zanetti, better known as the voice of Bluey’s mum Chilli on what is arguably Australia’s most successful TV show.

With the Heeler family set to unleash their biggest episode yet, we had a chinwag with Zanetti, plus Bluey’s executive producer Daley Pearson, about their favourite episodes, the healing power of play, and the little dog’s quest to take over the world from Brisbane, one heart at a time.

Peter has been a guest speaker with The Big Issue Classroom since it expanded to Canberra in 2017. He has spoken to many schools across the ACT and NSW, and enjoys sharing his story with others.

“The younger generation may not be exposed to the situation that…a lot of vendors have gone through. They get an appreciation of where we are and where we’ve come from.”

The best part of the Classroom for Peter? “It’s the enjoyment of seeing the kids’ faces light up…they shake my hand and say ‘I really enjoyed your talk today'”.

Peter is also a vendor of The Big Issue magazine, and sells with his wife Genice in Queanbeyan, NSW.
