Dolly Parton

On 25 August, we tumbled out of bed, stumbled to the kitchen and – dang it – before we could even pour ourselves a “cup of ambition”, we learned the shocking news that we’d lost a living legend overnight. After eight decades of making the world a better and brighter place, what on earth were we going to do without the late, great “diamond in a rhinestone world”: Ms Dolly Parton?

In honour of the Queen of Country’s passing, we’re celebrating a universally beloved legacy: of classic songs, larger-than-life looks and a fierce dedication to giving back. Dolly was raised in poverty in Tennessee’s Smoky Mountains, spending the rest of her fabulous life uplifting her hometown – and spreading the love to families and young readers worldwide, through her Imagination Library charity.

We will always love Dolly, and this inspiring edition is our ultimate farewell. “Greatness is out there,” the lady herself once said: “But it has to start from in your heart.”

More highlights in this edition:

  • Marie Kondo’s Letter to My Younger Self inspires us to get spring cleaning
  • The economics of heartbreak – why it’s expensive to be single
  • Behind the scenes of hit spy series Slow Horses
  • And Natalie Paull’s deliciously drippy Lemon Drizzle Financiers. Read the full recipe here.
